The 25,000 s.f. one story, plus partial basement addition to the existing hospital posed unique challenges as it was being built on varying layers of shale.  The roof was designed for a potential second floor to be built sometime in the future.

In addition, the design called for a large cantilevered roof canopy to provide no obstructions for patients or vehicles as they approached the facility entry way.
